Week 1: The World Is Yours: Exploring Your Options
This workshop will focus on developing your college application list. It will break down the main types of institutions: liberal arts colleges, research universities, community colleges, historically black colleges and universities, and the ways in which to approach the application process and tips and tools on how to find a college that fits your needs.
Week 2: Show Me What You Got: Academics
This workshop will focus on the academic elements of the application process: the transcript, academic rigor, course selection, and how they are evaluated in the process and the ways in which you can demonstrate that you got the goods to study what you want to study and be what you want to be.
Week 3: The Category Is: Live, Work, Apply
This workshop will focus on the impact of life experiences and extracurriculars and how these experiences are important in the college admission process. Focusing specifically on how all your life experiences have value and can be demonstrated in your application.
Week 4: It’s All You: Putting It All Together
The final main workshop will cover common application terms to help you navigate the process. It will also cover the different sections of the main application methods and how to fill out the application using all the tools from the previous workshops.
Tamice Spencer-Helms is a published author, speaker, and theologian based in Richmond, Virginia. After 15 years in campus ministry work, Tamice went on to found Sub: Culture Incorporated, a nonprofit that provides holistic support and crisis relief for Black College Students. In addition to their Bachelor's degree in Religious Studies and Copywriting (Virginia Commonwealth University), Tamice has a Masters of Arts in Contextual Leadership and a Masters of Arts in Theology. Over the years, Tamice has been a change-maker and pioneer for young people in her community. Throughout their life, Tamice has connected, supported, and ministered to countless young adults. Her friendly and down-to-earth approach to public speaking and teaching, as well as their dedication to theological study, has helped empower and inspire people in her community and beyond.

Brandon Mack has been in the field of college admissions focusing specifically on international recruitment in Africa, domestic recruitment strategies, building counselor relationships. and minority recruitment initiatives for over 13 years.
He is the current Interim Director of Operations at the International Association for College Admission Counseling, an organization dedicated to providing professional development opportunities for individuals who work with international students. Prior to his current position, he was an Associate Director of Admission & Coordinator of Transfer Admission at Rice University. B. Mack Strategies works with community based organization partnerships, and community outreach efforts to educate students on highly selective college admissions. B. Mack Strategies, which provides consulting diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI), politics, and meeting/dialogue facilitation services.

"For the Culture" college workshop series is a shared project of Sub:Culture Inc. and B.Mack Strategies, LLC. The workshops are designed to equip high school students of color with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate the college admission process while respecting their individual cultural perspectives and aligning with their aspirations and desires for their future educational endeavors. Students who complete the four mandatory sessions and two writing clinics will have three of their college application fees covered by Sub:Culture Incorporated as well as early bird application to Sub:Culture Fellows Program*
